Participants will learn the basics of filmmaking, from camera operation and working with actors to editing and lighting.
The first week will involve general skill-building with cameras and lighting. We focus much of the time on pre-production for one or two actual films that we will create during the camp: breaking the script down into understandable parts, developing and re-writing the script, as well as creating a 'shooting script.' Assignments are based on each student's interests and our preparation of each student for these tasks.
The second week will involve the actual shoot. Locations in and around the theater and the complex attached to the theater will be used for all filming. Students will work with working professionals in the Atlanta film community as overseen by the PushPush staff.
The third week will focus on post production elements such as editing, sound mixing, color correction, re-shoots, and many other details that go into creating a final project.
Each day is a combination of team-building exercises, skill development and hands-on learning. We have brief 'lesson sessions,' but always tie them to a practical challenge so we can increase the level of the entire program without making their summer feel like more school.
Filmmaking Camp is fun as well as challenging. We believe in providing challenging material, but also providing support during every aspect of the camp to allow everyone to participate and collaborate.
