The specific philosophy behind PushPush Theater's youth
program, SmallTall, unique to the Atlanta
theater community, is that the more young audiences are exposed to
challenging work, the easier it will be to present them with
high-quality work when they are older. Finding metaphors and motifs in
classic drama that reflect young people's life experience can help
youth understand difficult themes in challenging works of art and
ensure that masterpieces are kept alive and fresh for new audiences. In
essence, our mission is to develop young audiences to grow up to be
valuable cultural patrons of, and participants, in the arts.
Kids who participate in theater get better SAT scores,
have improved reading and communication skills, learn collaboration and
problem-solving, and have improved confidence! You'll notice a
difference!

Theater and Film Presents SmallTall
After-School Workshops
|
| |
PushPush is offering
youths ages 4-17 four SmallTall After-School Workshops in Theater
and Film. PushPush’s signature workshops are focused around classic
literature and give young people a one-of-a-kind experience in
story-building, theater and media arts. All workshops are lead by
professional working artists.
Pre/Post
Production
for
The Young Filmmakers 13-17
This is a fun and
challenging opportunity for young aspiring filmmakers to learn to plan,
produce and promote a short film. The workshop will have three
components; pre-production (storyboarding, art direction, make-up &
costume design, etc.), production (directing, lighting, studio and
location shooting etc.) and finally post-production (3-point editing,
sound design etc). This workshop is structured to give each participant
time to develop their particular area of interest whether they want to
direct, shoot, edit or produce.
Mondays and
Thursdays, 4:30 - 7:30PM, 2/6 – 4/26 (12 weeks), $375.
Filmmaking
for
the
Young Actor 13-17
This fast paced and
exciting workshop is for both beginning and intermediate level
filmmakers with a focus on acting. Participants will learn the basics
of acting for the camera and film production. Over the course of this
workshop we will complete a short film of an original script. We are
offering each young actor the opportunity to work on a unique and
challenging role through script and character analysis. The production
crew will be comprised of participants enrolled in the Pre/Post
Production workshop.
Thursdays, 4:30 -
7:00PM, 2/23 – 4/26 (10 weeks), $300
Introduction
to
Theater
for Ages 4-7
This workshop is a
fun introduction to scripted text, live performance, collaborative
storytelling, and the basics of voice, movement and stage acting.
Participants will work with actress and PushPush co-founder Shelby
Hofer to stage short stories while learning teamwork and the basics of
live drama. This workshop will incorporate theater exercises, games,
some memorization, and any other language, musical, and/or artistic
skills the participants want to bring into the performance.
Wednesdays,
4:30 - 6:00PM, 2/22 - 3/28, (6 sessions) $225
Acting
for Ages 8-12
This is a fun,
hands-on way to get your young actor up on stage and in control of
their talents. We concentrate on games and assignments designed to
focus attention, control voice and movement, and discover challenging
ways to express their unique personal voice on stage and screen with
the incorporation of video. The group will present a short play at the
final workshop.
Tuesdays, 4:30 -
6:00PM, 3/6 - 5/8, (10 sessions) $300

>>> PushPush Theater and Film Camp - Summer
2012
|
|
Both camps will include a theater, film, and improv component, and
allow students to try their hand at work behind and in front of the
lights. The process will be centered on a specific text and the story
will unfold utilizing all three components. The camp will culminate in
a professional public performance at noon on the final Friday of each
camp. Our goals with each of these programs are to enhance
participants’ imagination, communication, confidence, and thinking
skills while sensitizing them to team work. Teens and youth will work
separately but come together to create the final performance. The camps
are challenging and require focus, but they are also fun and
tremendously rewarding. We invite your young person to come play! All
camps are taught by leading professional artists in their related
fields
